Marcos Antonio Candido
Beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend;
Marcos Antonio Candido, 58, of Lowell, died unexpectedly after a brief illness.
Born in Sao Francisco De Paula, Brazil, July 24, 1962, the son of the late Antonio Candido and the late Jandira Lima, he graduated from STS High School in Criciuma, Brazil.
After immigrating to the United States with his family, Marcos opened Marcos Auto Body which he has owned and operated with his son for many years.
He is survived by four children Marcelo Dos Santos Candido and his wife Brenda Leao of Lowell, Maiara Dos Santos Candido and her husband Evaldo of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Marcos Antonio Candido, Jr. of Lowell and Sophia Candido of Lowell; three grandchildren; his former wife Brenda Barrera of Lowell and four siblings back in Brazil.
Due to gathering restrictions, all his Funeral Services were held privately for the family with a Memorial Funeral Mass at Holy Family Church in Lowell. Walter A. Costello
Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend;
Walter A. Costello, 91, of Lowell, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Wednesday January 6, 2021 after a brief illness.
He was the loving husband of the late Olga V. (Harmacinski) Costello.
Born in Dracut, Massachusetts, December 9, 1929, the son of the late John J. and the late Catherine (Delehanty) Costello, he attended Dracut schools and was a graduate of Keith Academy in the Class of 1947.
A veteran of the Korean War, Walter proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy.
Following the war, he graduated from Merrimack College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Prior to his retirement after 30 years, Walter was the Director of Financial Aid for Lowell Technological Institute (later known as UMass Lowell). Previously, he worked for Raytheon Corporation in Andover for many years.
A dedicated veteran, he was a member of the Dracut Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Dracut American Legion.
Walter also loved to play golf with family and friends and enjoyed gardening around his house and he was a devoted fan of the University of Notre Dame
He is survived by two daughters Kathleen A. Costello and her fiancé Robert Oliver of Raymond, NH and Karen M. Green and her husband Jack of Lowell; three grandchildren Ryan Przydzial and his wife Erica of Stoneham, Jay Green and Alanna Green both of Dracut; a sister Norma L. Sheppard of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild, Maximilian George Przydzial, who is due in February.
He was also the brother of the late Kathleen Cahill, the late Richard J. Costello and the late John J. Costello; brother-in-law of the late Robert W. Sheppard and the late William F. Cahill and uncle of the late Nancy Mullen Misiazek.
Due to gathering restrictions, all services were held privately for the family with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Carol Ann (LaPorte) (Silva) Ebert, 70, a resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell died unexpectedly after a brief illness.
She was the loving wife of Loren A. Ebert, who survives her.
Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, September 20, 1950, the daughter of the late William E. and the late Marie E. (Drapeau) LaPorte, she received her education in the Haverhill school system.
A proud housewife and mother of seven, she loved being with her family and spending time at Summitt Elder Care in Lowell.
Besides her husband, Carol is survived by seven children Janet M. Lowe and her husband Raymond of Lowell, Charlene M. LaPorte of Gardener, Caroline M. LaPorte of Gardner, Loren R. Ebert and his wife Shenelle of Lowell, Lorene A. Ingle and her husband Jason of Richards, NC, Josie E. McCarthy of Haverhill and Amy J. Villers of Haverhill. 22 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in Lowell from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday evening January 8, 2021. (All state required social distancing procedures will be observed including the wearing of masks upon entrance into the Funeral Home). Joseph Daniel Powers
Joseph Daniel Powers, 63, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 26th, 2020 at his home.
Joe was born in Medford, MA on June 8, 1957, son of Joseph John Strano Sr., and Barbara A. Hughes. He completed his schooling in the Lexington public school system, and then went on to join the United States Marine Corps. Following honorable discharge from the Marines, he spent some time in the Keys working on a clam boat and living his best life. He eventually made his way back home to Massachusetts, where he would work for various automotive shops in the area, later becoming owner of his towing company, Powers Towing out of Townsend, MA.
He worked hard and did everything he could for his family, never taking the easy way out of any problem he faced. He also knew how to have fun and get a laugh out of anyone with his quirky, quick-witted sense of humor. He gave the best bear hugs and though he could be a real Gemini sometimes, he always let you know how loved you were. He also loved watching documentaries on Bigfoot ("it's a true story, ya know"). In his parting, he's left his children lessons of perseverance, hard work, the proper mixture of a good rum and coke, and how to hold a flashlight the right way. Christmas was his absolute favorite holiday, so it's only fitting that he held on for the last one, even if it was in 2020.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Strano and Barbara Hughes, and his brother, Richard Strano. He is survived by his daughter, Rachael Powers and her partner Philip Smith of Portland, ME; sons Jake Powers of Lowell, MA, Calais Powers of Nashua, NH; sister Linda Whiting and husband Tom Whiting of Lowell, MA; sister-in-law Eui Soon Strano of Mansfield, MA; nephew Alexander Whiting of Lowell, MA; nieces Felicia Whiting of Lowell, MA, Jessica Strano of Cranston, RI, and Christine Strano of Mansfield, MA; long time best friend and caretaker Amy Cioffi of Corinth, ME and five grand-fur babies (none of which are dogs, much to his dismay).
His burial will be held at a later date in the spring of 2021.
