Alda A. Betley

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend;

Alda A. (Pereira) Betley, 88, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away Sunday March 1, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was the loving wife of the late Walter J. Betley who died March 14, 2011.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, March 19, 1931, a daughter of the late Antonio and the late Maria (Sousa) Pereira, she received her education in the Lowell School system.

For many years Alda worked in the electronics industry as an assembler at Honeywell, Symphonic and, RCA, where she helped work on the space program for NASA.

An active woman, she enjoyed dancing, singing, movies, games, sports but most especially loved to be with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always the loyal fan she would travel to watch her grandsons play hockey and baseball.

Alda is survived by her son Richard J. Betley and his wife Sandra of Lowell; a daughter Barbara A. Hogan and her husband Donald J. of Lowell; a granddaughter Kate Brown and her husband Steve of Lowell; three grandsons Justin Hogan and his wife Brittnee Cann of Reseda, CA, Trevor Hogan of Lowell and Matthew Betley of Lowell; six great grandchildren Quinn, Eli, Annabel, Owen, Dalilah and June; a sister Mary Dugas and her husband Roger of Lowell; a brother Anthony Pereira of Lowell; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was the sister of the late Augustina Tremblay, the late John and the late Jose Pereira.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Funeral Mass to be celebrated Saturday morning June 27, 2020 at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in Lowell at 11 o’clock. Mary Ann L. Poirier

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend;

Mary Ann L. Poirier, 71, of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away Tuesday June 9, 2020 in Lowell.

Born in Winchester, Massachusetts, September 27, 1948, a daughter of the late William G. and the late Ruth T. (Gelly) Meehan, Sr., she was a graduate of Billerica Memorial High School. A National Honor Society recipient, Mary Ann also earned a D.A.R. Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement in High School.

She went on to graduate from U/Mass Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.  She enjoyed teaching and helping children learn.

Mary Ann was gifted artistically and musically and among her several interests she enjoyed playing the guitar, piano, reading poetry and painting with oil paints on canvas.  She was an all-star athlete in three sports in the Merimack Valley including basketball, field hockey and softball.

She is survived by two sons Craig R. Poirier of Mico, TX and Brett A. Poirier and his wife Lisa of Helotes, TX; a grandson Brio A. Poirier; a sister Madeline A. Meehan of Naples, FL; a brother William G. Meehan and his wife Madge of Lunenburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred K. Gagnon

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend;

Mildred K. (Fahey) Gagnon, 88, of Lowell, passed away peacefully at D’Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday June 16, 2020.

She was the loving wife for 64 years of the late Donald P. Gagnon, Sr., who died May 27, 2019.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, September 4, 1931, a daughter of the late Frederick and the late Anna (Gill) Fahey, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School where she served as a Girl Officer. Mildred went on to Salem State College where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education.

Prior to her role as a mother, homemaker and care giver, Mildred taught Business Administration at Westford Academy where she also coached basketball. Later in her life after her children were fully grown Mildred taught special needs children for the Lowell Public Schools.

An avid Patriots and Red Sox fan, she enjoyed cooking and reading but was at her happiest when she was with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mildred is survived two daughters Mary Rita Gagnon of Chelmsford and Laurie Ann Prive and her husband Mark of Hampton, NH; a son Donald P. Gagnon, Jr. and his fiancée Kathy of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren Rebecca Husmer and her husband Steve, Samuel Gagnon, Adam Prive and Mitchell Prive; a sister Mary Roark of Chelmsford; a sister-in-law Lorraine Bragan of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Frederick Fahey and the late Ann Rita Beattie.

Shirley A. (McMahon) Mello

Beloved mother, grandmother; great grandmother, sister and aunt;

Shirley A. (McMahon) Mello, 86, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Monday June 8, 2020 at Lowell General Hospital.

She was the loving wife of the late Leo Mello, Sr. who died in 1996.

Born on May 22, 1934 in Lowell, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Francis and the late Irene (Johnson) McMahon, she attended Lowell schools and Lowell High School.

For over 30 years, Shirley worked at Raytheon in South Lowell until her   retirement as a tester in 1995.

Shirley loved puzzles and had many interests but her greatest joy was when she was with her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

She is survived by two daughters Gail A. Bruce of Pelham, NH and Donna M. Mulrenan and her husband James of Melrose; a son Leo Mello, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of North Chelmsford; four grandchildren Kathryn A. Ryan, Matthew L. Ryan, Kaleigh Doyle and her husband Patrick and Christopher Mulrenan and his wife Christa Carceo; a great granddaughter Leah Rose Doyle; two sisters Esther Peavey of Tewksbury and Irene Shaughnessy of Lowell; a brother Robert McMahon of Lowell; a sister-in-law Cindy McMahon of Dracut; many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was also the grandmother of the late Scott F. Silva and sister of the late Francis “Mac” McMahon, the late Beverly Flood, the late Rita Burk, the late George McMahon and the later Gerald McMahon.

Due to the Covid 19 state and federal restrictions a Private Graveside service was held for the family at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
