Richard J. Hoebeke
Beloved Father, Grandfather

 

Richard J. Hoebeke, 82, a longtime resident of Westford, MA, died Tuesday May 7, 2024, at Benchmark in Chelmsford following a battle with ALS. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Blanco) Hoebeke, who died in 2019.

Born in Malden on December 14, 1941, he was a son of the late Robert and Rose (Gianquitto) Hoebeke. Richard attended the Medford Schools, graduating from Medford High School, Class of 1959.  He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Fitchburg State College in 1995.

Richard was employed by Raytheon where he started working as a Draftsman and elevated to a Mechanical Engineer at various plants in the area. He retired after spending forty-three years of employment for Raytheon.

He enjoyed many hobbies including working on automobiles, fishing, and woodworking. His greatest enjoyment was his time spent with family, especially with his grandchildren. Richard was a devout Catholic and a proud member of the Blessed Trinity Parish in Westford.

Richard is survived by a son, Joseph R. and his wife Jaime of Bedford, NH; four daughters, Alice Hoebeke of Lynn, MA, Michelle and her husband John Delano of Bradford, MA, Nicole “Nikki” and her husband Dan Funaro of Westford, MA, and Danielle Mulholland of West Roxbury, MA; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, Jack, Ryan, JJ, Natalie, May and four great grandchildren.

Richard was the father of the late David Hoebeke.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Wednesday May 15, 2024, at BLESSED TRINITY PARISH, 107 NORTH MAIN STREET, WESTFORD, MA from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.  His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 10am, at BLESSED TRINITY CHURCH.  Burial will be private.  E-condolences at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com. James A. Keenan, Jr.
Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend;

 

James A. Keenan, Jr. (92) a longtime resident of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, surrounded by members of his loving family.

He was the loving husband for over 63 years of “his bride”, the late Mary Lou (Crane) Keenan.

Jim was born in Waterbury, CT to James A. Keenan and Anna Frances Harmon Keenan. He attended St. Mary Elementary School, Sacred Heart High School and the College of the Holy Cross, graduating in 1954. Jim was a proud alumnus of Holy Cross and maintained many connections and friendships with his classmates over the years. Upon graduation, he was accepted into the Georgetown University Law Center and graduated in 1957. After being admitted to the Bar in Connecticut and the District of Columbia, Mr. Keenan began his law practice in Waterbury, CT.

Jim and Mary Louise (Lou) Crane were married on September 7, 1957 and not long after that Jim achieved his goal of joining the FBI. His FBI career took him to Oklahoma City, Chicago and New York City. He was so proud of receiving three Letters of Commendation for his service and work with the FBI. In 1963, Jim moved from the FBI into the Assistant Director of Development at his Alma Mater, Holy Cross, and spearheaded their first capital campaign. This began a new, successful career for him. In 1969, he was recruited by the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN to be the Director of Development and was soon promoted to Vice President. He served in this capacity until 1983 when he moved into the position of Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the college of St. Catherine, also in St. Paul. After being recruited by the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary to be Vice President, Jim and his family returned to New England and moved into Lowell, MA in 1985. In 1989, he became the Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Emmanuel College in Boston and served in that position until leaving to start his own fundraising consulting firm, Keenan and Associates, in 1992. During the ten years of its existence, his firm assisted more than 75 non-profit and educational institutions with fundraising.

An active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Lowell, Jim became involved in helping the parish and school achieve their fundraising goals. He served as Chairperson of the school’s Development Committee and chaired the Parish’s Capital Campaign during the 25+ years he worked at the Immaculate. Along with the Immaculate, Jim worked tirelessly for over ten years for St. Patrick School and Educational Center in Lowell, helping the school reach its fundraising and Matching Grant goals.

Jim’s expertise in Strategic Planning enabled a number of non-profits within the Lowell area to plan for strong, stable futures. He was a Trustee of the Pollard Memorial Library, was involved with the establishment of the Pollard Memorial Library Foundation and in the Library’s renovation. He was a member of the Board of Directors at the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro for six years.

An avid reader of a book a week, Jim especially enjoyed regular phone conversations with family and friends.

Jim is survived by two sons John H. Keenan of Cleveland, Ohio and James A. Keenan, III and Lori of Dracut; two daughters Anne Leahy and Daniel of Prescott Valley, AZ and Patricia “Tricia” Keenan and Mike of Lowell; four grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law Helen “Tookie” Van Son of Huntingtown, MD; Ruthie Crane of Hollis, NH and M. Patricia “Pat” Crane of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Visitation on Monday May 13, 2024, at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH IN LOWELL from 9:30 to 10;45 A.M. followed by his Funeral Mass in the church at 11 o’clock. John M. “Jack” Davis

Retired Seargent Lowell Police Department;

John M. “Jack” Davis, 65, of Dracut, Massachusetts, a member of a well-known Greater Lowell family, and part of 3 generations of Davis’s who served on the Lowell Police Department, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 5, 2024, at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband for over 38 years of Sheila L. (Pettit) Davis, who survives him.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, February 15, 1959, a son of the late Edward F. Davis, Jr., and the late Helen E. (Gargan) Davis, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1977.

In addition, he was State Championship Wrestler for Lowell High School.

Jack continued his studies at New Hampshire College where he received a degree in Criminal Justice and then his master’s in Criminal Justice from Anna Marie College.

A proud and longtime member of the Lowell Police Department, Jack began his career in 1981 and over time was assigned to Car 6 and later as a Seargent at the Main Desk for several years until his retirement in 2012.

Jack had many interests including bowling, golf, crossword puzzles and was an ardent Boston Sports fan. He also enjoyed trips to Foxwoods with family and friends.

However, his greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Jack is survived by two sons John M. Davis, Jr. and his wife Thea of Billerica, MA and Joseph M. Davis of Dracut; two daughters Kelly A. Bettencourt and her husband Chris, and Colleen E. Leclair and her husband Conrad all of Dracut; four grandchildren Hayden, Parker, Tanner and Conrad; a brother Edward F. Davis, III and his wife Jane of Tewksbury; his mother-in-law Muriel R. Pettit of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday. Beloved sister, aunt, grand aunt and friend;


Mary D. McCarthy, 75, of Lowell, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Friday May 3, 2024, at D’Youville Senior Care in Lowell.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, March 25, 1949, the daughter of the late William F. and the late Mary Hoar (Bolger) McCarthy, she was a graduate of Presentation of Mary Academy in Hudson, NH and went on to receive her Associate’s Degree from Northern Essex Community College.

Prior to her retirement in 2000, Mary was an Office Assistant at Tewksbury Hospital for over 25 years.

Among her several interests, she enjoyed horses, photography and being with people.

She was also a longtime volunteer at Ironstone Farm in Andover, MA.

Mary is survived by her two brothers, William F. McCarthy and his wife Janet of Marblehead, and David F. McCarthy and his wife Julie of Stockbridge, MA; two nieces, Emily (McCarthy) Muller and her husband Robert of Hingham, and Madeline S. McCarthy and her husband Sean Taylor; two grandnieces, Leah and Nora, and grandnephew Mac Williams Muller.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Friday morning May 10, 2024, at the IMMCAULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in Lowell at 12:00 Noon. (Please meet at the church).
