Brenda E. Jarrett

Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend;

Brenda E. Jarrett, 52, of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at her home.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, July 5, 1968, daughter of the late William C. Jarrett and Elizabeth A. (Chapman) Jarrett (who survives her) and her step-father Russell Lahaise of Methuen. Brenda attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1986 and participated on both the basketball and volleyball teams.

Brenda was a comptroller with Bowers & Wilkins in Reading, MA where she worked for over 20 years until her recent retirement.

Brenda loved golf and was an active member at Long Meadow Golf Club. She was one of the first seven original women members to be offered full membership at the Club. She was a very social person and loved her time spent at the club where she thoroughly enjoyed the company of all the special people there.

She was also a member of the 2007 Long Meadow Women’s City Golf Team and was on the founding Women's Cities Tournament Committee.

In addition, Brenda enjoyed travelling and trips to Foxwoods with friends and being "Auntie" to her niece and nephew.

Besides her mother and step-father, she is survived by a sister Barbara A. Farley of Lowell; a brother William J. “Bill” Jarrett of Kittery Point, ME; a nephew and godson William P. Jarrett of Boston; a niece Hannah E. Farley of Lowell; and two cousins Michelle Digman and Christopher Chapman. She also leaves many cherished friends from Long Meadow as well as Bowers & Wilkins dear friends Steve Curran, Erick McBride and Jessie McDough.

Alan E. Dailey

“Bampy” - 1955 – 2020

       It is with great sadness that the family of Alan E. Dailey “Bampy” of Lowell, announces his passing after a heroic 20 year battle with cancer.  He was married for 39 years to the love of his life and best friend, Lynne (Wholey) Dailey.

       The son of the late Robert F. Dailey and the late Sheila (Burns) Dailey, he was raised in Lowell’s Belvidere Neighborhood. A graduate of the Immaculate Conception School and St. John’s Preparatory High School, Alan went on to graduate from the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences for Funeral Directors.

       Alan worked several years at The Mahoney Funeral Home as a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He also managed operations at the family store, Gorham Liquors. Alan had an accomplished career as a Sales Representative for both the Whitehall Company and Ruby Wines, where he worked until his retirement in 2018.  He loved his job and spoke fondly of the many great friendships he forged with both colleagues and clients. Upon retirement, Alan fully intended to resume his career in the funeral profession.

      He lived his life with intent, writing his own rules and paving his own way.  He was known for his quick wit, sound advice, and unparalleled storytelling. An avid reader, Alan was passionate about history. This passion drove him to broaden his knowledge with a cherished family trip to Ireland and many visits to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, the Fort Ticonderoga Museum, and Smithsonian Museums.  He enjoyed sports, classic movies, summers on Great East Lake, and charcoal grilling year-round. Above all, he treasured his time spent with his five grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Bampy” and filled his heart with love.

       Alan was the greatest father to his children, imparting his strengths, wisdom, and values. He selflessly provided them with everything they could ever need or want.  He was happy to welcome his sons-in-law who were a perfect complement to his family.

       Alan will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lynne and by his daughters Pamela J. Coit and her husband, Timothy R. Coit of Chelmsford; his daughter Allison E. Morin and her husband Norman P. Morin of Chelmsford; his 5 beloved grandchildren: Emma, Margaret, and Charlotte Coit; Alan and Patrick Morin.  His siblings Robert F. Dailey of Quincy; J. Richard Dailey (Joan) of Tyngsboro; Donna L. Dailey of Lowell; Linda D. Barbo (Doug) of Reading as well as his Uncle Robert “Ziggy” Burns (Terry) of Dracut and Uncle Joseph Sweeney of Lowell.  He leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He also leaves behind many dear friends from his childhood, the Bunting Club, and his coffee club at Store 38. 

       He was predeceased by his sister Judith A. Frost, whom he adored, and her husband Robert W. Frost as well as his in-laws Leonard and Joyce (King) Wholey.

       Now, as we prepare to say “So Long” in Bampy’s words, we will always and forever “Remember When” Bampy’s favorite song.

Eleni Prentakis

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt;

Eleni Prentakis, 88, passed away on Nov 6th.  Born in the village of Pigi on Crete, she came to Lowell from Greece in 1966 with her husband Emmanuil and two young sons, Tony and Kosta.  Her daughter, Mary, was born soon after.  Eleni worked as a seamstress for many years, mainly at Jamppa Manufacturing where she made clothing and later at Anton’s Cleaners where she sewed custom curtains.  She was a faithful member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.

Eleni leaves behind Tony of Watertown MA, Kosta and wife Irene Kastrinakis of Middleton MA, and Mary and husband Dimitrios Maroudas of Amherst MA.  Her four adoring grandchildren Alex and Melina Prentakis with her fiance Aaron Turner, and Nina and Nakos Maroudas all miss their yiayia.

She is survived by two siblings: older brother Kostas Spandagos with his wife Eleni of Tewksbury, MA, and their children Bill and Olga with her husband Christos Kourniotis and their daughter Penny; and younger brother Lefteris Spandagos and his family of Rethymno, Crete, all of whom mourn her loss.

Eleni’s joy was caring for those she loved. She created a sweet and comfortable home for her family and a welcoming one for her friends and neighbors.  Many in the Greek community of Lowell knew Eleni for her warm hospitality and her unmatched baking and cooking skills. Her house was always stocked with her famous koulourakia (cookies) and home-grown stuffed grape leaves. She was quietly a sturdy pillar of her family and community.

After a long, eventful and worthy life, Eleni was laid to rest beside her husband at St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury following a private funeral service.  E-condolences at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com. Maria N. Cota

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend;

Maria N. (Costa) Cota, 84, of Billerica, MA passed away peacefully Wednesday November 4, 2020 in North Reading surrounded by loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio G. Cota who died in 1999.

Born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, July 1, 1936, a daughter of the late Jose and the late Maria N. (Magna) Costa, she emigrated with her family to the United States in 1986.

Maria is survived by four children Vitorina Dinis and her husband Emiliano of Portugal, Natalia C. Sousa and her husband Manuel of North Reading, Laura Bento and her husband Jose of Lowell and Manuel Cota and his wife Ana of Billerica; a daughter-in-law Manuela Cota of Portugal; eleven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late Daniel Cota who died in 2006 and the grandmother of the late Vania Teixeira who died in 2010.
