Robert T. “Bobby” Lysz

Beloved son, father, partner, brother, uncle and friend;

Robert T. Lysz, 51, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away on Friday February 14, 2025, at Tuft’s New England Medical Center in Boston, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby was the loving, longtime significant other of Kimberly Jones, who survives him.

Born in Yuma, Arizona, the son of Monica S. (McLaughlin) Fontaine of Lebanon, ME, and the late William J. Lysz, Sr., Bobby received his education in the Lowell School System.

Most recently, Bobby was a warehouse clerk with the Portland Group in Billerica, MA. Previously, he worked for William E. Belleville, Inc in Chelmsford, Tewksbury Welding and Next Generation Ironworks Corp in Tewksbury.

Among his many interests, Bobby loved fishing, sports, dance battles and TikTok. He loved spending time with family and friends, but especially his children, Ryan, Thomas and Jenelle. Bobby was always the life of the party, you always knew when he was around. He had a saying for many things. Also family and friends had many names for him.

Besides his fiancée and mother, Bobby is survived by two sons Ryan Thomas Jones and Thomas Robert Lysz both of Lowell; his beloved daughter Jenelle Vera Sue Lysz of Lowell; his brother William J. Lysz Jr, and his fiancée Amy Gauthier of Lowell; two sisters Lucretia Brayen and her significant other Derek St. Cyr of Rochester, NH and Chelsea Everett of Sanford, ME; four nieces, his goddaughter Leocritia Wolf, Ainsley Brayen, Teigan Brayen all of Dover, NH; Gia Sconza of Sanford ME; Monica’s significant other Travis Frost of Lebanon ME; and many grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Friday morning February 21, 2025, at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 10:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. when his Funeral Service will be conducted in the Funeral Home. James F. McMahon
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend

 

James F. McMahon, 91, of Lowell, a member of a well-known Greater Lowell family and retired Deputy Superintendent of the Lowell Public Schools passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loving family on Tuesday February 11, 2025.

He was the loving husband for over 63 years of Mary Ann (Connolly) McMahon, who survives him.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, May 17, 1933, the son of the late Leo and the late Isabelle (Leonard) McMahon, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1952.

After high school, Jim entered the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country as a Corporal during the Korean War.

Following the war, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Education Class of 1958 from Lowell State Teacher’s College and later his master’s in education from Salem State College.

Jim began his long and distinguished career in education as a schoolteacher at Bartlett Middle school. He then became the Principal of the Shaughnessy Elementary School and later was named the Deputy Superintendent of the Lowell Public School system until his retirement in 2000.

In addition, he taught at Phillip’s Academy in Andover, served as an Adjunct Professor at U/Mass Lowell and was a probation officer for Middlesex Superior Court.

Active in his community, Jim was a former member of the Lowell School Committee, the East End Club Scholarship Committee and the Lowell Lodge of Elks.

Among his several interests, Jim, a former longtime member of Mt Pleasant Golf Club, enjoyed golfing and playing 45s with his friends, and traveling with his wife Mary Ann.

All about family, his greatest joy was spending time with his children and his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending all their sporting events and witnessing their accomplishments.

Besides his wife Mary Ann, Jim is survived by his four children; Cathleen Sturtevant and her husband Robert of Tyngsboro, MA, Colleen Cox and her husband John of Tyngsboro, MA, Erin Hart and her husband Alan of Chelmsford, MA and Jay McMahon of Chelmsford, MA; six grandchildren Courtney Cox Dettore and her husband Santo, Conor Hart, Brooke Sturtevant, Ryan Hart, Griffin Hart and Madelyn McMahon; two sisters Ann Craven of Lowell, MA and Maura McMahon of Port Charlotte, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Leo, Martin, Bernard, Richard and Francis McMahon.

Friends may call on Monday February 17, 2025, at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 2 to 6 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Tuesday morning February 18, 2025, at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in LOWELL at 11 o’clock. (Please meet at church). Retired School Principal, Community Christian Academy

Alexandra "Alexa" (Saati) Tayebi, 81, of Westford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Monday February 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

According to family members, Alexa Tayebi (nee Saati) was born on August 10, 1943, in Alexandria Egypt. She is survived by her husband Amad, whom she regarded as her soul mate of more than 57 years, a retired professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She and Amad first met during the first week of classes at the College of Engineering of Alexandria University. She is also survived by a daughter, Attorney and Associate Professor at Babson College, Marileen Nancy Tayebi Aiken and wife of the late Attorney Adam Scott Aiken, a son, Ronald Mark and his wife, Dalia Nahas Tayebi. Two grandsons, John (Jack) Sidney Aiken and George Ryan Aiken. She is also survived by a brother, Michael R. Saati and his wife Mary, a sister Helen Morcos and her husband Samy and a brother Dr. Spiro Saati and his wife Dr. Josephine Pandolfo, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Saati and her father Raif Saati.

She was also a longtime parishioner of St. George Orthodox Church in Lowell where she, at times, served as a Sunday School teacher, and later Superintendent of the Sunday school.

Alexa earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Engineering from the College of Engineering of Alexandria University and began her career as a textile engineer. She worked for Alexandria Spinning & Weaving Company in Alexandria, Egypt. In 1968, she and her husband immigrated to the US and settled in the Boston area. She then worked as a textile engineer at the Fabric Research laboratory in Dedham, MA. After earning a Master of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, she joined Abundant Life Christian School in Wilmington, MA, Beth El School in Chelmsford, MA, and Community Christian Academy in Lowell where she remained for thirteen years. As a School Principal at Community Christian Academy, she led her team to achieve 5-star accreditation, and retired in May of 2010.

After her retirement, she taught part-time at Middlesex Community College.

Her greatest joys in life were her family and her faith. She had many friends and acquaintances with whom she enjoyed spending time studying the bible.

Friends may attend her Visitation on Friday February 14, 2025, at ST. GEORGE ANTIOCHIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH 44 BOWERS ST. in LOWELL from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Her Funeral Service will take place Saturday morning February 15, 2025, in the CHURCH at 10 o’clock followed by her burial at Pine Grove Cemetery in Westford. Dorothy J. (Page) Shanahan

Loving mother and grandmother

Dorothy J. (Page) Shanahan, 76, of Manchester NH. but formerly of Lowell MA. died on Thursday January 30, 2025, at the Maple Leaf Health Center in Manchester, New Hampshire.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas M. Shanahan who died in 2018.

Born in Lowell, MA, May 18, 1948, the daughter of the late Donald and the late Hazel (Jarrett) Page, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.

Prior to her retirement, Dorothy was an Accounts Payable Clerk at the Lowell Sun where she worked for many years.

Among her several interests, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, bowling and photography.

Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by a son Sean T. Shanahan and his wife Melanie and their children Caleigh, Aidan and Audrey of Tewksbury; her daughter Kathy Samson and her husband Chris and their children Jeremy, Ryan and Kylee of Allenstown, NH.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Visitation on Wednesday February 5, 2025, at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
